This area seeks to generate knowledge and interaction with organizations to promote management and public policies geared towards sustainability and sustainable development. It is an interdisciplinary research group and academic direction for the MGA and MDP programs. The area brings together professors whose research agendas involve environmental, social, and public issues related to sustainability and sustainable development. It also provides conceptual, methodological, and pedagogical foundations that seek to integrate sustainability in a transversal manner in all other areas and programs of the School of Management and, in general, in the management of decision-making and management.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The professors of the area seek to develop a deep knowledge and research tools to understand the different roles that organizations and public policies play in the creation and especially in solving the most pressing problems of our society. Our interdisciplinary perspective is achieved through integrating different disciplines and areas of knowledge, from administration, natural sciences, geography, economics, engineering, and sociology, among others, around the study of organizations and public policies and their interaction with the most pressing contemporary socio-environmental problems. Likewise, we seek to contribute to fostering changes toward a more equitable, environmentally sustainable, and economically viable society through the generation of knowledge, the development and application of management tools, and the strengthening of the capabilities of professionals who lead change processes in organizations and territories. We deal with social and environmental innovation in companies and value chains, territorial governance models, alliances between organizations, social and environmental development policies, biodiversity conservation models, and transition management, among others.<\/span><\/p>

The starting point of this area is the paradigm of sustainable development that seeks to reconcile the increase of well-being and the reduction of poverty and inequity with global limits. That is, understanding that organizations function in an economy that operates within a finite system of resources. In this context, any economic or social objective must be achieved within a safe operating space for people, and this requires the collective effort of nations, companies, citizens, and organizations.<\/span><\/p>
