Indigenous procurement involves purchasing goods and services from Indigenous-owned businesses to promote their economic development and integration into the mainstream economy. Indigenous procurement remains largely unexplored in the academic literature. There is a need to understand the specificities of Indigenous procurement and its potential to contribute to the much-needed economic reconciliation with Indigenous communities. In this seminar, I present the results of an exploratory case study of indigenous procurement practices in the Canadian electric utilities sector. I discuss the various theoretical and methodological issues of research on this topic and present a research agenda for further investigation.
