Every year (from September to November), UASM launches an international Call for Course Proposals. Since 2004, the International Summer School program has had visiting professors from more than 46 universities worldwide. Between 2004 and 2014, over 100 different courses have been taught and demand for them has grown significantly from 124 participants in 2004 to 395 participants in 2014, with an average of 35 students per course.
All course proposals are reviewed by the International Summer School Committee in charge of selecting each year's course portfolio. On average, 11 courses are taught during each International Summer School. Proposals are selected based upon the following criteria:
- Each visiting faculty academic background, teaching and research experience.
- The uniqueness and relevance of the topic to be taught (UASM students take these courses as electives from their academic programs).
- The maintenance of a multidisciplinary balance within the program portfolio.
- The maintenance of a regional balance within the program portfolio.
