Dr Ismail is an international expert in entrepreneurship and economic development. He is the Abdul Latif Jameel Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship at The American University in Cairo (AUC) Onsi Sawiris School of Business and the founding director of the AUC Venture Lab, the top start-up accelerator in the Middle East and Africa. He is also the founder of AUC Innovation Hub, a platform to connect industry and academia around innovation and R&D. He is the chairman of the Board of Egypt Ventures (VC) and PayMob (digital payments) and a co-founder, angel investor and board member in fast-growing tech start-ups and financial institutions. Previously, he was a research fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, a consultant at McKinsey & Company’s New York office and the World Bank, a co-founder and managing partner at Enovio Consulting and a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum. He received his PhD in international economic development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has degrees in engineering, business, city planning and information technology from AUC and MIT.

Anne Miroux is a Faculty Fellow at the Emerging Market Institute, Cornell S. C. Johnson College of Business at Cornell University, and a former Director of the Division on Technology and Logistics in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and Head of the Secretariat of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD). With over thirty years of experience in international trade and finance and STI policies, she began her career in New York in the United Nations Centre on Transnational Corporations where she was involved in the negotiations on the UN Code of Conduct on Transnational Corporations. In UNCTAD, she directed for several years the World Investment Reports (WIR), the UN flagship report on FDI and transnational corporations and served as the Editor of the UN Transnational Corporations Journal. She has authored many publications on debt, FDI, technology and innovation and emerging economies – including with Lourdes Casanova the Emerging Market Multinationals Reports (2016 to 2024) and the The Era of Chinese Multinationals (Academic Press Elsevier, 2019) and, as a co-editor with Fernand Cahen and Lourdes Casanova, From Copycats to Leaders: Innovation from Emerging Markets (Cambridge University Press2021. Anne Miroux graduated from HEC, Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales, and from IEP (Institut d’Etudes Politiques – Paris). She holds a PHD in Economics from Paris I – Sorbonne.

Fernanda Cahen (PhD, University of São Paulo) is a professor of international business and innovation and the head of entrepreneurship and innovation for all academic programs at the Higher School of Advertising and Marketing, Brazil. She was a visiting researcher at USC Marshall, Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and a postdoctoral fellow at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University. Dr Cahen has a PhD degree from University of São Paulo in business administration, and she specialises in international entrepreneurship with focus on strategy and innovation of high-tech ventures and digital companies. Her latest publications include articles in the Journal of International Management, R&D Management and Journal of Business Research, among others. Dr Fred Olayele is an associate professor of management at the Department of Graduate Studies, Crandall University and a senior fellow at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, Carleton University. A seasoned economist, development finance executive, and innovation strategy leader with a diverse career focused on global business, finance, public policy, development and academia, his expertise covers trade policy, innovation strategy, foreign direct investment, urban policy, political economy and inclusive development. He has taught courses in four Canadian universities and served as a visiting professor and guest speaker across universities and academic institutions abroad. He previously served as chief economist and senior vice president at the New York City Economic Development Corporation, where he oversaw a wide range of economic policy initiatives to help position New York as a global model for inclusive growth and innovation. Prior to that, he advised the Canadian provincial governments of British Columbia and Saskatchewan on economic development and energy policy. Earlier in his career before joining academia, he was a global trade finance specialist with Citigroup. He sits on the academic advisory board of the Emerging Markets Institute at Cornell University. He is a member of the international advisory board of the International Economic Development Council in Washington, DC. He chairs the board of directors of the Economic Club of Africa Network and the governing board of Blue Global Canada Institute. Dr. Olayele hosts the Global Recast podcast, a series of curated conversations with global leaders on grit, courage, and economic optimism in a fractured world. He holds a PhD in economics from Lancaster University, United Kingdom, and an MA in economics from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada.

Dr Kalotay is a part-time external research fellow of the ELTE CERS Institute of World Economics, Budapest, Hungary, as well as Honorary Professor of the Corvinus University in Budapest. From 1990 until his retirement in 2021, he worked for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Geneva, Switzerland. From 1996 to 2010 and again from 2016 to 2021, he worked for the World Investment Report group and for the editorial team of the Transnational Corporations journal. Between 2010 and 2016, he was in UNCTAD’s Investment Policy Review group, providing advice to national policymakers. From 2001 to 2019, he also taught investment strategies for UNCTAD’s policy programs. From 1990 to 1996, he was a policy analyst of economic cooperation among developing countries at the UNCTAD secretariat. Prior to joining UNCTAD, he had taught international economics at the Corvinus University (1983–1990). He holds a PhD from the same university. Dr Casanova was named one of the top 50 most influential Iberoamerican intellectuals and one of the top 30 most influential Iberoamerican women intellectuals by Esglobal. A Fulbright scholar, Dr Casanova has a master’s degree from the University of Southern California and a PhD from the University of Barcelona. Her research focuses on the internationalisation of emerging market multinationals. She is a co-editor with F. Cahen and A. Miroux of the book From Copycats to Leaders: Innovation from Emerging Markets (2021) and with A. Miroux of The Era of Chinese Multinationals (2019). She is the author of the Emerging Market Multinationals Report (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024); co-author with P. Cornelius and S. Dutta of Entrepreneurship and the Finance of Innovation in Emerging Markets (2018); co-author with J. Previously, he served as the university vice president for information management. Before joining the university, he was the director of the Regional Information Technology Institute and managed the training department of the Cabinet of Egypt Information and Decision Support Center. He serves as the chair of the board of directors of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and vice chair of the Global Alliance in Management Education (CEMS). He serves on the board of directors of the Central Bank of Egypt, the Global Business Schools Network, and Education for Employment Egypt. He is a member of the Egypt-U.S. Business Council and the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies. He is a founding member of the Internet Society of Egypt. He served as the president of the board of governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. He co-chaired the board of stewards of the African Women Entrepreneurship Cooperative. His teaching and research interests include digital transformation, information technology transfer to emerging economies, decision support systems, and entrepreneurship. He has authored many academic and business articles, book chapters, and three edited books. He authored the book Leading Change in Challenging Times: Lessons of Disruption and Innovation from Egypt – Thoughts, Observations, and Reflections and the NileView article series.

Dr Kamel is an Eisenhower Fellow. He holds a PhD in information systems from the London School of Economics, an MBA, an MA in Islamic Art and Architecture, and a BA in business administration from The American University in Cairo.

Veneta Andonova

Dr Andonova is an associate professor of strategy and entrepreneurship and former dean of Universidad de los Andes School of Management in Colombia. She obtained her doctoral degree in management from Pompeu Fabra University, Spain and has taught for some of the top business schools in Latin America. She is an accomplished educator, entrepreneurial mentor and researcher. Her scientific contributions have been published in highly ranked international journals in economics and management, and she is a co-author of three successful books: Multilatinas: Strategies for Internationalization (2017), Entrepreneurial Ecosystems in Unexpected Places (2019) and Cases on Entrepreneurship and Innovation (2024).
