This course offers an introduction to “environmental policy economics”. Students will use economic, political science, and institutional frameworks to explore the causes and potential solutions to environmental problems.
The course will not only cover basic regulatory tools such as standards, subsidies and taxes, but also emphasise on broader approaches that involve more active participation by the private sector, such as information programmes, environmental markets, and technology adoption. At the end of the course, the student is expected to be capable of understanding important issues such as climate change mitigation, biodiversity protection, fisheries management, and water and air quality.
Course Prerequisites: for this course, prior microeconomics experience can help but it certainly is not absolutely necessary.
