The course focuses on the ways in which leaders must recognize and respond to a variety of competing value propositions within themselves, in their organizations and at societal level. Whereas standard leadership typically creates incentive systems, values-based leadership also motivates through norms, examples and inspiration.
Leaders are expected to appreciate competing value propositions and also to articulate and advocate principles and standards of behavior. To achieve these goals leaders must anticipate how others will respond to material and values-based incentives.
Alvaro Sandroni holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania (1996) and a PhD in Mathematics from Instituto de Matematica Pura e Aplicada (1994). He is the E.D. Howard Professor of Political Economy at Kellogg School of Management. Sandroni is an expert in market selection and rational learning.
His research interests include behavioral sciences, economic and game theory, political science and general equilibrium theory. He has published in top journals and serves on the editorial board of Economic Theory and International Journal of Game Theory.
