This course examines the transformation of financial services through platform business models, artificial intelligence, and digital ecosystems. Students will explore how companies like Apple, Google, and Meta are becoming financial institutions, how traditional banks are evolving into platforms, and how embedded finance is making every company a potential fintech. The course combines theoretical frameworks with practical case studies from global markets, focusing on strategic implications for both incumbents and new entrants.
Professor Aneta Hryckiewicz-Gontarczyk, Said Business School, University of Oxford & Kozminski University. I am a professor of finance and economics with extensive expertise in banking, financial technology, and empirical research methods. Currently serving as an Associate at Oxford’s Said Business School and Professor at Kozminski University, I combine academic research with practical industry experience as an Independent Board Member at ING Bank and National Expert at the European Commission. My research examines the transformation of financial services through digitalization, with recent work on disintermediation, platform business models, and the impact of Big Tech and Fintechs on traditional banking. I’ve published in leading banking and finance journals including the Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Financial Stability, International Journal of Central Banking or Finance Research Letter, Economic Analysis and Policy or European Management, with an important focus on policy making conclusions. I have more than 20 years of international teaching experience across institutions in Germany, France, Netherlands, Poland and UK, I have developed and delivered courses in fintech, banking, corporate finance, and advanced econometrics to undergraduate, graduate, MBA, and PhD students.
