Strategy and Entrepreneurship

The Strategy and Entrepreneurship area aims to advance the understanding of creating and scaling an organization that innovates and generates sustainable value. Through research and teaching, the faculty team channels its actions to understand how organizations create and capture value considering their national and international environment, organizational capabilities, and role within society.

The entire team of professors in the strategy area shares a multidisciplinary and practical approach to significantly impact the academic community and organizations at the national and regional levels.

Four significant themes unite the specific interests of our professors in terms of research, teaching, and consulting:

  • Large organizations and SMEs: Inclusive business, Internationalization, Multilatinas, Competitiveness, Corruption, Strategic organization, Peacebuilding, and Hybrid organizations;

  • Organizational Environment: Emerging economies, International cooperation, Consulting as a driver of development, Inclusive internationalization, Entrepreneurship ecosystem, Impact investment, Cross-sector alliances, Business networks, Social networks, and Knowledge networks;

  • Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurial social capital, Opportunity formation processes, Value creation and capture, Innovation, Business models, Social, sustainable, institutional, international, female, and technological entrepreneurship;

  • Pedagogy: Experiential learning, Participant-centered learning, Pedagogical case development, Constructivist learning methods, and Entrepreneurship pedagogy.

Key aspects to consider

Our teaching seeks to develop in students the ability to find creative solutions and make decisions that generate value for organizations based on a deep understanding of organizations’ context (national and international) and their management capabilities. To this end, we seek to train our students to think critically (recognizing different perspectives), analytically, and ethically. The courses led by the area are:

  • Compulsory strategy courses: Strategy, Environmental Analysis, and International Business.
  • Compulsory entrepreneurship courses and topics: Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Workshop.
  • Integrating courses: Management Consulting, Management Game, and Degree Project.
  • Area electives: Innovation Workshop, Business Plans, Sustainable Business Models, Entrepreneurship and International Marketing, Smart Resources for Entrepreneurship, and Women Entrepreneurship Seminar.
  • CBU: Entrepreneurial Leadership

The Strategy and Entrepreneurship area participates in all programs, from undergraduate, master’s, specializations, and doctoral programs. It also supports two of the University’s and the Faculty’s centers focused on promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in our community: Innovandes and the Center for Entrepreneurship. Likewise, professors from the strategy area lead the creation of a Master’s Degree in Innovation, together with professors from the faculties of Design and Engineering of our University and the strategy of valuation of the research conducted by the Universidad de los Andes through the creation and dissemination of new products in the market.
