The development of the program content goes beyond the list of courses. It aims to integrate the student’s learning experiences in terms of knowing, being, and doing. For this reason, courses and teaching methods are defined according to the student’s intended profile at the end of their studies, their objectives, and the learning goals of the master’s program. The institutional definition guides the school in designing and developing each specific course.

Challenges:

The student is confronted with real situations and dilemmas to develop leadership and decision-making skills. This is delivered through a framework that emphasizes systems thinking, sustainability, and leadership, using a problem/project-based learning methodology. Students work on projects with organizations that aim to integrate knowledge and opportunities by solving the problems they face.

Simulations:

Expose participants to the exercise of generating a strategy and designing the different mechanisms and tools to advance and control its execution. The student understands and assesses the risks inherent in the decision-making process. Management simulation software allows for effectively integrating and  considering most of the areas of an organization, their interrelationships, and complexities at the time of implementing a strategy.

Case studies:

Through case study methodology, students cover different areas of an organization under real situations by developing critical and analytical thinking and communication, argumentation, and persuasion skills.

Participant-centered learning:

In line with the University’s philosophy, the program will develop methodologies based on problems and/or projects. The aim is for the student to learn through active participation, understand the theory, and develop competencies when confronted with learning situations where he/she must make decisions and/or address specific managerial problems.

Seminars:

These updating spaces complement the learning process by bringing the student closer to the knowledge and experience of professors, entrepreneurs, business and trade leaders, and recognized experts.

Workshops:

Through active learning in practical exercises, the strengthening of participants’ abilities and skills in vital management topics is facilitated.

Cooperative Learning:

In various courses, students must work in teams supporting each other to undertake projects and reports. They must search for information, analyze concepts, reach conclusions and make decisions.

Problem Based Learning:

Knowledge is acquired through questioning and engaging in a specific problem so that the student incorporates it into his/her mental structure. This methodology transfers previous learning to new situations, and research is integrated into management processes.

Independent and group work:

This is aligned with the values of the university. The program requires commitment on the part of students to access knowledge independently and within a group. This is built through activities that include – among others – review of videos, reading documents, review of materials, homework and exercises, group discussions, self-research, etc.

Leadership development process:

At EMBA, we value each student’s trajectory and individual characteristics, so our leadership development process is personalized. During the master’s program, students participate in the process of growing in leadership with individual measurements, which allow us to know in detail how their leadership competency enters, advances, and ends according to the Leadership Compass model, developed by professors of Uniandes and for the exclusive use of the School of Management.

The combination of measurements and personalized feedback provide clarity in the growth path and the design of special activities by EMBA for leadership development. In this way, EMBA communicates course grades and reports the transformation of managerial competencies.

Curriculum - cohort 2025

The duration of the program is 18 months, and it has 38 credits in four cycles. 31% are courses focused on the development of core knowledge in management; 25% are interdisciplinary courses that connect different areas of knowledge in management to contrast their scope and limitations; 19% are learning

experiences based on problems/projects (we call them Challenges), and the other 25% are electives from a range of courses and topics that address the context and interests of the students.
