The financial and economic volatility that characterized Latin America during the 1970s and 1980s brought about competitive advantages for leading business schools, whose graduates with business experience in uncertain environments were perceived that, in the 1990s and into the new millennium, they would be more competent managers than graduates of other professions.
1972 Establishment of Universidad de los Andes School of Management.
1974
At the beginning of this decade, the Colombian Federation of Administrators (Fecolda) was created.
Its purpose is to “strengthen education and research in administration.”
1980 The title of Industrial Economist is changed to Management.
1981 Law 60. Regulates the management profession in Colombia and created the Professional Council of Business Administration.
1982 The Colombian Association of business schools (Ascolfa) is created to gain recognition from the Colombian Association of Universities, the Colombian Institute for the Promotion of Higher Education (ICFES), and the country’s universities.
1984 Opening of specializations in Marketing and Finance.
The assassination of Luis Carlos Galán took place in Colombia. The period of narcoterrorism led by Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel was unleashed. It was a significant and unforgettable period for the country.
1985 Opening of the Human Resources Management specialization program.
1986 Opening of the CEOs program.
1987 Opening of the Master in University Management program.
1989 The Specialization in Banking and the Specialization in Management through the Uniandes – Coruniversitaria agreement.
A leap into the future: Internet arrives in the country
1991
Headed by Manuel Rodríguez Becerra, a committee of specialists presents the Study of the Science and Technology Mission on Research and Teaching in Administration in Colombia, created by Colciencias to evaluate professional studies. Its concluding title was “Great growth with precarious quality.”
1994 On June 4, Colombia opened its doors to the Internet. The signal was transmitted from Florida (USA) to Impsat’s operations center on the Suba hill, from there, to the Colpatria building, and, finally, to the Universidad de los Andes.
Tulane University initiates the Latin American doctoral program, with some courses offered at the School and IESA, to enable doctoral studies by professors from Latin American schools.
Inauguration of the Corona Professorial Chair, a fund financed by the Corona Organization, facilitates visits to the Faculty for short periods by renowned foreign academics.
1996 Latin American Encounter: New Experiences in Innovative Management, financed by Interman, Cladea, and Venezuela Competitiva, was held to promote interaction among research groups from schools and faculties affiliated with Cladea.
The process of applying for international accreditation begins by comparing itself with other institutions, exposing itself to different viewpoints and references, and being present on the international scene.
2000 Opening of the Master’s program in Executive Administration, EMBA.
2002 Creation of the Graduate School that brings together the Master’s in Administration and Specialization programs.
First School of Management in the country to be accredited by an international agency – EQUIS.
2003
Opening of the Doctorate in Administration, aimed at training research professors for higher education institutions in the country and the region.
2004
2006
The school earned the AACSB accreditation (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) y AMBA (Association of MBAs).
Accreditations known as “the triple crown.” These are considered the most important and recognized credentials, placing the faculty within the top 1% of business schools worldwide with such recognition.
2007 Inauguration of the “Julio Mario Santo Domingo” building, the school’s new headquarters.

2010 The Faculty earned the AACSB accreditation (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) y AMBA (Association of MBAs).
